FAQS FOR FIORDLAND
How do we get to Te Anau?
We suggest flying in to either Queenstown or Invercargill airport. We can help with organise transfers from the Airport to Te Anau via Tracknet, who can provide transport options. We always suggest staying in Te Anau the night before just incase we need to change your transfer in due to weather.
If travelling by car, we suggest using google maps to find the best route to suit you.
Where do we board the Helicopter from?
We use Te Anau Helicopter services located at Te Anau - Manapouri Airport, Aviation Drive, Manapouri. Flight times are around 25 minutes to Dusky Sound and 35 minutes to Chalky Inlet.
Where do we board the boat/bus transfer from?
Transfers are with Realnz. They are located at Pearl Harbour, 64 Waiau Street, Manapouri. They provide the journey across the picturesque Lake Manapouri then transferring to a bus over the breathtaking Wilmot Pass through Fiordland’s rainforest with RealNZ to Deep Cove where you will board the vessel. This is a 2 hour journey.
What time of the year is the best time to go?
Fiordland National Park is a temperate rainforest. Moderate temperatures and high levels of rainfall are important characteristics of temperate rainforests. Anytime of the year you can get 4 seasons in one day in Fiordland. Summer is great for Longer days, Spring is when the flora & Fauna come into bloom as well as the local wildlife, Autumn is great for the Hunters keen on some fresh Venison and Winter is great for Calm days and for any keen photographers.
What equipment is on Board?
On board we have 10 x Dive Tanks, Air Compressor (Unlimited Refills of Tanks), 1 X Tender, Weight Belts, 4 Kayaks, Fishing Rods, Craypots, Communication (Emergency Use Only) and Handheld Radios. We have plenty of Life Jackets and Safety Equipment onboard as required by Maritime New Zealand.
What is provided in the Trip?
All food is provided while on board with 3 x Meals a day. We also have snacks throughout the day, a fresh fruit bowl and cookie jar available at all times.
Drinks provided while onboard include tea, coffee, milo, fruit juice and water.
Bedding is included which includes pillows, duvet and sheets. We have extra blankets and pillows available.
Towels and facecloths are provided.
Will I get seasick?
Not likely. We spend most of our time in internal waters so it is very calm water. If we do go out to sea we only go on a calm day. We do have seasickness tablets available for emergencies and if you are doing a coastal trip, we do suggest if you get seasick to bring in some tablets or what you prefer to use with you.
What do I need to bring?
We have a checklist we will provide prior to your trip with everything you need to bring with you.
How do we get alcohol onboard?
Alcohol is BYO and cans are preferable.
Is there Phone Reception available?
No Reception is available in Fiordland. We have a communication onboard for emergency's. It is a great time to have a tech free holiday!
